Eleventh Hour Spearfish Canyon
Eleventh Hour Spearfish Canyon

Eleventh Hour is short and sweet (or long and drawn out), but worth the hike always.  It is not a hike for kids, flip flops, or scaredy cats.  A man made ladder has been put in place by an avid hiker, thank you! If this ladder is not in proper working order, turn around because someone is bound to hurt themselves.  Water usually lines the rock walls which makes the hike to the top that much more dangerous.  In the initial stages of the hike it is very vertical.  It is recommended to not go down the same way you went up.

Just like every hike in Spearfish Canyon, you will want to have your camera when you reach the top.  Once you climb the ladder and head out on the rocks, you will reach a lookout that looms over the road you just came in on.  If you are really brave, you can keep climbing to reach views that the camera will love.  It is also possible to continue to follow the creek and eventually reach Tinton Road.

How do you get to Eleventh Hour?

When traveling from Spearfish, you will want to take Hwy 14, or Spearfish Canyon Hwy.  There is no specific parking lot for this trail, only a small pull-off area.  Shortly after Bridal Veil Falls you will come upon a road on the left named Cleopatra Place.  Shortly after this road you will come to the parking lot for the Devil’s Bathtub hike.  The second curve past Cleopatra Place you should see the pull-off on the left hand side of the road.  The trail begins across the road from the pull-off and there are no markers.  Visually, you will see only a cleared area within the brush.
